I photographed the following coins before they were sold at auction in London between 2012 and 2016. They are a brief selection of all the ancient coins I photographed on this period.

These coins were struck during the Ancient Times, from Ancient Greece and Rome to the Dark Ages and Medieval Period.
Greek coins from the 5th century to the 2nd century BC.
Roman coins from 1st century BC and 1st century AD.
Marcus Aurelius (161-180), aureus, 164-165 AD. 
Sold by Morton and Eden Ltd. on December 2014 for £13,000.

Thanks to the next photograph, we can see really interesting elements of this coin. 
It’s visible on Athena’s shield the head of the Gorgon, which according to Pseudus-Apollodoro: 

"Athena inserted the Gorgon's head in the middle of her shield. But it is alleged by some that Medusa was beheaded for Athena's sake; and they say that the Gorgon was fain to match herself with the goddess even in beauty."
